Kristie Hevener Cross

Hi there! Despite the fact that one of my hobbies is writing, I must admit that instead of writing about me, I’d much rather hear all about YOU. Since you’re already here though, I’ll give it my best shot:

Where I’m From:

Staunton, pronounced “Stan-ton” (I know....that silly 'u' throws everyone off.) First off, I was lucky enough to have been born and raised in Staunton, VA—one of the top ten small towns in the whole country. Staunton is truly a wonderful place to live. It’s just the right size with loads of cool people, fun things to do, and great places to eat. I know all the backroads, swimming holes, and the off-the-beaten-trail diners with the best food you’ve ever had in your life for under ten bucks. Let’s have lunch, and I’ll be happy to show you around! (And don’t worry…I know all the main roads and fancy places, too!)

My Past Experience and Why I Became A Realtor:

I was also lucky enough to attend the University of Virginia in beautiful Charlottesville, VA. I went to school off and on for twenty years before graduating at the age 38 with a B.A. in Classics/Latin.

I had this crazy idea that I wanted to be a Latin teacher, but looking back I realize now that I just Ioved Latin and had no clue what I ultimately wanted to do professionally. When I was not in school, I was working in finance and raising kids. (My youngest, Violet, is now 13, and like all teenagers, apparently knows and mocks everything. Just kidding! Well, kinda….)

Anyway, the years I spent as a mortgage loan officer were rewarding in the way that I was able to serve my clients from behind the scenes, but to be honest, I was always envious of all the realtors who got to be on the front lines! I wanted to be the one--out there from behind a desk with my clients--showing their homes and listing their homes. Plus, all my happy realtor friends who LOVE their jobs kept telling me, “You really should be a realtor!”

And so with verve and gusto, I left the mortgage industry forever to finally become the realtor I should’ve been all along. It was an easy transition, and the best choice I could've made. My years spent on the lending side taught me many invaluable skills every realtor should possess. These skills include: 1) a broad understanding of the local housing market, 2) the importance of communication between the realtor and lender to prevent delays in closings, and 3) being a good listener to fully understand the wants and needs of my clients.

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading--I'm excited put all my experience, skills, and tenacity to work for you!
