Melissa Rossow

Originally from New Hampshire, Melissa grew up working in her family’s small hotel on the coast, where she inherited an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age. She has lived in Virginia for over 17 years. After earning her master’s in journalism and working for a small town paper, Melissa joined the College of William and Mary to serve as Director of Alumni Communications for 11 years.

In 2011, Melissa relocated to Charlottesville with her husband and in 2014 she became a realtor. She excels at listening to people, asking good questions and understanding people’s needs, as well as negotiating contracts. She also makes it a point to know what’s happening around town in real estate and on the culture and food scene, which is one of Charlottesville’s many treasures.

Communication skills come in handy in the real estate business where there are so many media outlets to market your home. Melissa understands the importance of online media and how professional photography can make a difference. She lives in Belmont with her husband, a retired Army officer. She loves to walk the Downtown Mall any time of the year and shop in the Farmer’s Market when it’s open. The proximity to everything from restaurants and entertainment venues to church and fitness amenities attracted them to live close to the hub of Charlottesville. Melissa also enjoys the easy escape to the country to watch polo, ski or hike in the mountains, kayak the James, or simply sip some of the outstanding local Virginia wine with friends. Melissa looks forward to helping you buy or sell your home.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Favorite Way To Spend A Day Off

My husband and I are very active, so in the spring and fall we like to hike in the mountains and bike Rails to Trails, in the summer we visit friends in Virginia Beach or boat on Smith Mountain Lake and in the winter we ski, often just down the road at Wintergreen. We enjoy cultural activities, concerts and museums, both here in Charlottesville and in Richmond or D.C. We also love to spend time together, so you will see a lot of ‘We’ in this list.

Favorite Places in Charlottesville

My favorite thing to do is stroll the Downtown Mall on a Friday evening with my husband, maybe going to the wine tasting at Market Street Wine Shop and checking out the art on First Fridays or listening to music at Fridays after Five, followed by a trip to one of our favorite eateries. It’s also a great place to people watch and run into people you know.

Favorite Hobby

I love to cook and there is nothing better than preparing a meal for family and friends. I was inspired from watching the old cooking shows on TV with my mother, long before the days of the Food Network. My husband and I love films and foreign television, so Netflix can be very addicting. We explore new places and take trips whenever possible. Between the two of us, we have traveled to every continent except Australia.

Favorite Sporting Activity

My husband and I prefer participating in sports to watching them, but we do try to catch at least one or two baseball games a season, and the local horse races, Montpelier and Foxfields. We are both New Englanders, so of course, that makes us part of Red Sox Nation. Go Sox! I have always enjoyed tennis and would love to go to the U.S. Open someday.
